Retro fitted Cruise Control

I ordered a cruise control for my 2004 Z4 at 11am this morning from my local BMW dealers, I picked it up at 4pm and 25 minutes after starting to fit it I was off down the Motorway with a big smile on my face. I cant believe how easy it is to retrofit upgrades to these older Z4s. I have already upgraded the seats to heated electric Leather seats from manual cloth seats and plan to fit electric folding mirrors next. Not to every ones taste I know, but I have a narrow drive and getting fed up of near misses
 
Did you have the cloth seats recovered or fit leather seats? if you had recovered I'd be interested in where you had them done etc.
 
No, I have still got the cloth seats, if anybody is after a set to recover. I bought the seats off Ebay and got the door cards from a local breaker
 
I never realised you could buy a Zed with cloth seats, I only found out the other day that manual roofs can be found (but not in the UK)
 
Mine probably is one of the few Z's with cloth seats, Sensatec its called I think. It was one of the reasons I bought the car as they are in perfect condition and don't suffer from the leather wear and tear. Have thought about recovering but the costs plus being without has put me off. Plus they are warmer in winter.
 
Did the retro Fit come with installation Details. From what you are saying with the accelerate by wire feature there is no necessity for anything to be done in the engine compartment, How does the stalk mount onto the steering column. does it look like the original or a stick on, Could you provide some Pic's

There are some very good threads on here which detail exactly all you need, it is a very easy job if your car is pre September 2004. I managed mine OK once I found out you can pull the steering column out towards you. Yes i didn't know!
 
If you have a pre September 2004 model it couldn't be any simpler. Undo one screw and release the cowling at the bottom of the steering column. Put the adjustment handle in the open position and remove the cowling. You will fin the plug you need taped to the loom, you just simply have to un do the piece of tape to release the plug you need, plug it into the cruise control and slide the cruise control into the lug that holds it in place. On the piece of cowling you have removed you will see marked out the piece you need to cut out. A junior hacksaw and a dremel or sandpaper with give you smooth edges. once the piece is cut out, reconnect the bottom piece and tighten screw, job is done. 25 minutes for me last night. Just be careful making the cut and follow the lines.
 
Even for the post '04 cars it's not that big a job once you know how, plenty of good gen on here. Well worth doing. And cheaper than from the factory!
 
My cruise control stalk arrived today, I'll be fitting it tomorrow, looking forward to having cruise again. I paid £77.42 all in from www.bmminiparts.com (£64.52 + VAT and delivery).
 
I ordered mine today from my Local dealer, he did me a deal at £72.82 inc Vat which i was happy about.

Hopefully pick it up tomorrow and will fit it over the weekend :)

Hi All,

I have a 3.0 2004 Z4. Ordered mine last week and took about a hour to fit. The hardest part is cutting the steering column cowling. Take your time. Really pleased with mine. One question though is there were two plugs taped to the loom. The first was the black cruise control plug, the second is a smaller white coloured one. Any idea what that is for?

Does anyone konw how much more difficult this is to do on a facelift model? Pre Facelift sounds easy but what is the additonal work involved for Facelift models?

If not too much harder then £80 or so sounds like a steal! I only need folding mirrors, then have the full house of options :D
 
~£80 for the stalk, ~£20 for the loom. Split two wires in the LCM loom and crimp connectors onto both ends, connect stalk, run single wire into engine bay. Sounds simple, aim for 3-4 hours with all the trim removal unless you've done it before. Lots of info on here and I can help as it was my first mod!
