Retro fit of cup holders?

Yes it is, have a search for the part numbers and you can get them from dealers. Might be wrong but I think it's a different part for a retrofit compared to factory fit.

I did hear that they are in very short supply after the manufacturer for the part went bust.

I have them, and have used them about 3 times, so not sure it's really worth it personally

if you retrofit you need the face plate.

this was in short supply as the manufacturer went bust but i'd have thought bmw would have sorted this by now

Shortly after purchasing my 2006 Z4, I purchased 'Ultimate Cup Holders' online after reading about them on another forum. They are relatively inexpensive and nicely finished pieces of stainless steel with a black liner, and don't look 'tacked on'. They mount low in the car on the transmission tunnel, so the container base sits on the floor.

I have functional Z4 factory cupholders, but I don't care for their somewhat tenuous grip on cups - or the fact that they mount containers of liquid up so high on the dash. Any spills and both the occupants and the car components are getting a bath, and to me they seem like a very poorly thought out design. Very happy with the Ultimates - not associated with the company in any way, just a satisfied customer.

Ooooop's someone sent me an email about these recently rather than a PM and I accidentally deleted it :headbang: before I got a chance to reply properly, so if you are reading this I apologise for appearing rude and not getting back to you  .

I may be out of the norm here but I think the BMW cup holders are worthless. I would go with one of the after market add ons which there are a few out there.

only ever used mine once, spilt the drink and swore i would never use them again

Any pointers of ones you would suggest?

+1
Would NEVER trust the stock cupholders, but use the Ultimate Cupholder all the time (just one, on the passenger's side, easy reach for both occupants).

Yes, check the 'orders' page ...

Please contact me before placing international orders to determine method, cost, and estimated shipping time. International orders placed without prior contact will not be processed and payment will be refunded.

If you're drinking UK-sized beverages the the ones in the dash are fine - and have successfully held my 1 litre water bottles during trackdays at Oulton Park and public days at the 'Ring (plus during the 1300 mile round trip).

The trick is to close them onto the beverage, remove the beverage and make the holder one click tighter to more securely hold the beverage.

I never have hot beverages in them as I find the container to be the weak point, rather than the cup holder, and I don't want to risk driving and spilling boiling liquid all over my 'nads or champagne leather.

If, however, you wish to use 42oz coffee/soda containers, then the standard ones are useless :P

I got a pair from my local dealer a couple of months back, wasn't sure at first because of the price at about £80 inc front plates and mixed reviews. Anyway I got them as wanted easy coffees whilst driving on a two week road-trip. Also got a couple of cheap window holders that I cut back to wedge under the centre console to hold water bottles - it was glorious weather so great to have both options without having to stop or risk reaching around.

Worked great even on bends round the alps at a decent pace, though obviously with lids on. They're easy to fit by removing and attaching to the vents (got instructions off here somewhere - just search, soon spot them) and well designed. Overall I'd say they're worth it if you'd use them on regularly or on long road trips.

No regrets from me anyway.

Do http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/index.html sell to the UK?

Do these clip into/under transmission tunnel plastics or held on with sticky pads? I can't work out what secures them in place.

The top of them slides under the plastic side of the console, and the bottom sits on the floor of the car. The extended top portion of the steel is slightly curved to provide some tension under the console. It can be recurved easily by hand to provide more or less 'hold'.

Oh, and BTW last time I was over there a 'UK size' beverage looked remarkably similar to a Canadian sized beverage - a 341ml/12 oz. (imperial) Diet Coke can is generally what's in my cupholder. The manufacturer states you can securely place a 'big gulp' cup in one as well, but I've never had a desire to carry a popcorn tub full of soda with me in the car ... :P
