Retro fit multi function steering wheel cable H1

I have a Z4 Prod. Date 2003-03-25 3.0i manual, which did not come with the multi function steering wheel.
I would like to fit the multi function wheel.... and see threads that discuss it.
I seems that there were two BMW kits to do this - 1) one for all Z4's and 2) one cars before 09/03 only
The difference I can see is kit 2) includes a Part H wire harness 2 clips of the installation manual 09/03 attached.
Will a multi function wheel connect straight in for my car without H wire harness?
Is H wire harness the wire for Lighting the function buttons only?
If I buy a Multi function wheel from a Z4 - will I still need the cable H wire harness to make it work?
If I can get a H wire harness wire from a seller of a multi function wheel, what do I ask them for?

If your in the UK, your car should be pre wired for mfsw, it should be tucked in the lower section of the steering column behind the plastics, I'll see if I can find a picture

I think they are pre wired - but why did the BMW kit have the H wiring harness in it for pre 09/03 cars?

I think you worry about the instructions too much, if you have the wiring you don't need it. If you don't have it, you do. Possibly different markets was the reason.

The cable doesn't just control lighting, the other is data (I/K bus). Just get it from BMW themselves, either online or in person, it's cheap and you can't go wrong.
