retract brake piston

I have a 2011 Z4 that I am replacing all brake pads and rotors. It has the electronic e brake. I do not have the capability to electronically put the vehicle in maintenance mode so am doing it all manually.
I have the rear brakes off and new pads installed. How do I manually retract the caliper piston. I removed the motor and using T45 socket turned the internal part clockwise. It did not move easily but I managed several turns. I then went to collapse the piston but it barely moves. Do I need to apply pressure and collapse it or apply pressure while rotating the front of the piston.

It should move back with more pressure applied to it equally …professionals have a jack screw type tool to push them back..

I used a large flat screwdriver to wind the pistons back.
