Retired and Driving BMW ?

Just saw this.

Thought some here might have an opinion.
For me I never thought about the marque.
I was seduced by the Zed while hunting for a Cooper S.
And the Zed was actually a much better deal.
Imagined I'd use it as a fun light touring machine for me and the Mrs.
After this article I now have to compete ? :driving:

I'll let you know when I reach that age. Out of interest what BMW is that photographed in the article? Looks the muts to me but can't figure which model it is.
 
I'm certain the article doesn't apply to those of us retired and choosing to drive the Z4. . . . :P to them!

Maybe that's why my Dads a grumpy old git! However he did retire then go back into work and looks to be retiring again and grumpier than ever!

To be fair he's not so grumpy driving his vert
 
I'm not so far from retirement age and cannot believe that I would be grumpy as I'd have a lot more time for driving the zed and other car-related pursuits. :D :driving:
 
I'm a septuagenarian and I'm happy enough in retirement having a ///MC and a 3.0i Roadster for my "fun" driving plus an S-Class Merc for "comfort" and I'm not in the least Grumpy, especially when I'm driving one of the Zeds! :) :driving:
 
What a load of tosh! Doesn't say how many are now divorced after being retired because the wife's fed up with them being in the house hence fed up lol

Well I have been retired for almost a year now
I've been fortunate enough to have owned some superb cars including Bentley, Jaguar, Mercedes, Lexus and many more including Cooper S which I hated
I only ever owned one Bmw in 1985, a 6 series. It was ok but only had it for about 9 months
When I retired I decided I should be more sensible with my cars so I bought a 2.0l Renault Megane Coupe which I must say is really a great car despite some of the tales you hear about Renault
I've still got the Renault and still enjoying it but felt I needed a ' project' , something to do up, modify and play with, so after looking around and some carefull consideration I decided on a 2003 3.0l Z4 Roadster which I purchased last August
I'm lucky enough to have a large garage where I have been able to carry out a few mods and bring it up to pristine condition
In comparasion this has been one of the cheapest cars I have bought but I must say so far it has given me so much pleasure, I treat it well like all my other cars and enjoy every minute when I'm driving it
It definateley makes me happy and I am far from being a miserable ol git in my retirement :roll:
 
I thought that retirement was for enjoying life and spending some of the hard-earned dosh on yourself, rather than leaving it to the youngsters (who need to make their own way in the world and save for their own happy retirement)? That's the way our family works anyway and some of the genes have been passed on as my youngest son (now 28), who has just got rid of his 320d to buy an X6 4.0 :D
 
Yes, I'm retired and drive a z4. Getting my third one next week.

I'm not grumpy at all, although my wife would disagree I'm sure.
 
Ok - I am fifty in three weeks and can draw my pension from a previous employer ( so a pseudo pensioner really )

Current Situation:-

POSITIVE
Not grumpy -
Run my own company (part time of course because I'm retired remember) -
Play drums & percussion in a swing trio and a prog rock band -
Have my own recording studio at home currently working on an album to be released in the autumn -
Have three holidays planned this year -
Drive a z4 -

NEGATIVE
knees are a bit bolloxed from playing drums for 36 years -
Sometimes can't remember what I came into the kitchen for ????? -
A little overweight or possibly under tall ! (not sure) -
What hair I have is now grey/ white ! -

Apart from the above I'm rocking !

Recently saw Elton John in concert - he played for 2 .5 hours flawless he's 67 !!!!!!!!!!

Get on with it :thumbsup:

That means your hips still "hip" ?
Im thinking as long as you don't have to fall outta yer Zed to exit the car,
You are good to go.
Plus even if you have to fall out ...
Do it with grace and a grin and you will be amazed at all the sympathy you get !

Yup, sign me up to the happy and contented brigade. Medically retired some years (12, gulp) ago now and have never been happier driving BMW's. The Zed rocks and makes me smile just looking at it.

Think I will take my financial planning elsewhere. . .
 
We are almost at "that" age and am very very happy to have ordered our Z4, in fact we are quite the cliche of older couple spending kids inheritance on a sports car :D We are also very happy with our 2nd 330D touring and have never felt we were competing (well it is so much better than any other car, there was no competition really :rofl: )
