Yes yes, I know, everyone will tell me to either replace, just leave them as they are or swap them for blanks.

But, I got these from another forum member (Thanks, @PVR) and I plan to refurb over the winter.
Not to replace mine as mine are OK, just as a side job.

I've removed the plastic brackets, I'm next going to tackle the task of splitting the clear cover away from the housing.
I have some tactics for that and will also grab a favour from a mate who's done multiple headlights in the past, he'll sort it if I give up.
Quick Q, though. Are the clear plastic lenses held on with any screws at all, or just glue ?

Anyway, my main concern. The housing. Is it aluminum?
There are seriously corroded, pitted and covered in a floury type dust/powder.
What is it?

These poor guys are in a BAD way  :

What's the best way to tackle the housing?

Seriously though, if you get good at it then you might have a good side hustle on here doing them for members (on an exchange basis?).

They are bonded in. Soak them in boiling water and prise them apart. Quite tough. But the will come apart.
Ally silver section needs rubbing down with sandpaper or dremmel.
Then you can buy chrome paint at Halfords to repsray the inside. Then bond back to get with tiger seal etc.
job done.

Ah yes, my Scottish specials

Glad they made it to you as I was worried the drugs squad would have intercepted them with all that powder in them

Interestly enough, the new replacements I fitted where not alu but chrome sprayed plastic.
