Restoring/Dyeing Leather Seats.

Hi all,

Thought I'd share my experience today of dyeing my leather seats. I'll keep it short and show pictures rather than loads of words but I'm not 100% happy with the results. It definitely looks better but I did have higher hopes.

I think I'll do the whole 3 step process again.

Anyway here's the equipment.

This is the seat after I used the cleaner, before I used the colouring.

And after colouring and adding the leather protector.

Like I say I'm not 100% happy with the results although I think it's a step in the right direction.

Perhaps it's a longer process of doing it a few times, I'll update as and when I get round to doing the process again.

It depends how truly indicative the photos are of how the seats look. But it doesn't look bad to me. No doubt an experienced professional would achieve better results after the seats had been removed and split. But with those products, an inexperienced hand, and in-situ cleaning (presumably), I wouldn't be disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, it's a lot better, I just think it needs to be done a few times to really achieve the results I'm after.

I've nothing bad to say about the products and the results. I think it's just a longer process than just doing it once.

Can deffo reccomend the products. :thumbsup:
 
Pabby1980 - As the saying goes "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". And if you feel needs more work go for it. But from the pictures looks great. I am thinking of working on my seats also. After looking on vendor site did you purchase and use the Spray gun to apply?

I just followed the instructions on the bottles which didn't involve a spray gun only cloths and sponges.

I wouldn't bother with the leather cleaner, I'm sure soapy water would be fine, that's all it seems to be.

The only other bit of advice would be to wear gloves as it's pretty strong dye.

Pabby1980 thanks for the reply and info. Will order products and get started on my seats. Actually just the bolster on drivers side just like yours little worn.
 
It may not be perfect OP, but it looks like a huge improvement to me!

Hopefully doing it again will give a result you are happy with. :thumbsup:

No problem at all.

Just feed the dye into the areas you want to change colour. Don't be too liberal with it.

I did the dyeing process 4 times. Left it for 10 mins, then dye again.

Looks good OP. Black would seem pretty simple in terms of options from Furniture Clinic.
My beige drivers seat needs a little bolster work but cant decide if the beige they supply would blend and match?

I'd advise just to take it slow. Apply a little of the dye once, then wait and see after 10 mins. If you're happy then re-apply, if not leave it.

It's not a one step process. More of a gradual thing.

I've also read positive comments about Scuffmaster, but haven't used either (yet)!
