How difficult is the rear turbo to replace? My 35i has quite a rattle. Any tips/tricks?
Most of the guides look like they're for the 335i, but e89 engine bay is a bit tighter.
Had a quote for about £450 from a specialist in Nottingham.

If you can get it done for £450 then let them do it..

Bumhole of a job and in reality it's engine removal to replace correctly

It's done 85K

I've found a pair of refurbished turbos for £440, or alternatively a flapper repair kit is ~£50.

I've booked the car in at PMP cars Nuneaton.
It looks like they specialise in wastegate repairs.
£590 all in.

In case anyone else is interested - I had a great experience at PMP.

Couldn't get there until after it closed, but the owner said it wasn't a problem and met me about 7pm.
Dropped off on the Weds and collected mid-day Friday.
Car is perfect now, no waste gate rattle at all.

Cost was £590 all in
They also do walnut blasting for £250

Direct injection engines like the N54 tend to build up crud around the inlets as they dont have fuel vapours running through/over them.

I think walnut is used because its quite hard but softer than metal.
