It's not a lot of money but it's still cash CJ. If you hadn't said what you said on Sunday I wouldn't be having these problems  I am quite happy with grey. I am just not happy with what it says about my personality!!!

Believe me I hear you and cash is cash and it has to be spent wisely. I'd just shed a tear doing all that prep and paint work and it wasn't something I really wanted.

Grey it is then :)

I like the idea of shiny grey and no dents and scratches. Being quite badly colour blind I think I will be happy with grey!!

I will just have to get used to being boring!!

This is a fallacy that will cost you hundreds of thousands over your life. Your personality is what is saying things about your personality. The objects you own have little bearing on it, excepting that your behaviours point you out as someone who believes possessions influence or indicate your personality, which makes you easy to sell to. Keep your own counsel mate, paint it whatever the f**k colour you like best.

PS my dad ran a bodyshop for 35 years, accepted wisdom when I worked there was silver is a c**t to match, peugeot and merc silvers doubly so (mainly the hard lacquers rather than colour tho).

Thanks fish to be honest I don't very often give a dam what others think! Nor do I question my personality I am quite a simple creature I like it or I don't. You like me or you don't!

Yeah it is not just your dad's shop!! Silver dose seem to be a PITA!!

My only criticism of the Z cars was ever only the amazingly boring choice of colours they come in - mostly uninspirational & drab grey metallics. When I was looking for mine I'd made my mind up it had to be blue, black or red ........ so I bought a yellow one! Which love it or hate it, is quite eyecatching and different.

The bottom line is that if you like the grey metallics go for it, colour is an immensely personal thing so you can't really ask anyone else to help choose it for you. Personally though, I'd say sod the free paint and get something totally wild done - metallic orange maybe :D - but ONLY if the whole car was done, i.e under bonnet, inside door jambs etc. If you can't do that then leave it original otherwise it'll loook totally crap. Just my twopenneth for what it's worth

I like grey but not because it's boring. It shows the sharp lines of the z4 off very well.

I had an electric orange focus st and currently have a hot magenta fiesta so i'm not afraid of funky colours. It's just grey suits the zed to a tee.

I take your point, but most of the colours - except maybe black - will show off the lovely curves of the Z, the dark blues in particualr look gorgeous in the right light, as does your light silver but the darker greys are just plain drab to my eyes

The Phoenix does a fair job as well

Silver? How very dare you! That is BMW's finest Sterling Grey 472.

I'd never own a silver car, ever
