Respaying front bumper costs

Well, the other day I had my first minor accident in my zed :( It was my fault, I was parked behind a small barrier that I could not see when I got in the car- that damn large bonnet!

Anyways i've scratched the front bumper in sereral places across the passenger side so it needs a respray. However, I took it over to Dick Lovett Spraymasters (in Swindon) that day to get a quote expecting it to be around the £200- £300 mark. I received a quote this morning for £775 in total!! Now is it just me or is that taking the absolute p***

Take it to Dingmaster in Swindon and tell them you were recommended by me/the forum

He resprayed my front spoiler and took several parking wounds out for about £400. He does an ace job and I thoroughly recommend him

He has a proper paint shop, and always has cars in so you can see the quality of his work. He's done several friends cars now and they're all delighted

I had a really top quality job at Nuffield Accident Repair in Poole.

Repair scraped bumper and dent in bonnet, paint bumper, bonnet and wings, £420. Looks as good as new.

just had mine done - well it's in at the moment - £180 from the paintshop recommended by my local indy. last week there was a ferrari in there, and when i dropped it off, a bentley and a porsche. so your quote's well ott.

scraped it on a kerb which was a pisser, although to be honest it was stonechipped and needed blowing over anyway.

Wow. That is a great price Dan. Wish I lived near Poole - I want all those panels done and a wee bend taken out an edge, and I was guesstimating £800 :(

Should really get some quotes from round here...

:o A new bumper painted from BMW wouldn't be far off that! lol

I got quoted £450 to respray the front bumper. I was shocked!! Looking at this thread I'm going to shop around.

Lincoln Sopers, BMW paint shop quoted £780 for mine, and that included replacement grills (nicked), replacement numberplate base mount (cracked) and respray. Did you tell them it wasn't an insurance job?

I bought a scratched second hand ZM front bumper, and CUSTOM EXOTICS in Harlow (Essex) repaired it, painted it (beautifully) and fitted it for £300
In the Sun-light it looks a amazing Finnish in Sapphire Black

BMW quoted me that £400 + vat for the two side skirts, whilst local shop asked £175.

They obviously don't want the business is all I can think off (or is all insurance work - hence the premium costs ...).

I know they do a large amount of insurance based work so maybe that's why it is so expensive.

I'm going to try cleaning it today and use some kind of wax maybe to buff it a bit. Hopefully the scratches won't show too much and I can get away with it :/

Local paintshop has done a few club members cars including mine quoted £180 for bumper job as it had to be taken off to do it.

Must be just that dealer who is a rip off.

A neighbour reversed into my car a few weeks back so I took it to Scottals BMW in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire for a quote. Both kidney grills and the mounting brackets behind them needed replacing but the following is what they quoted for to milk the job.... My neighbour was paying cash and as it wasn't me paying I didn't mind what they quoted.

Replace kidney grills and mounting plates.
Replace BMW badge as they claimed the plastic clips behind them brake when taken off.
Remove and respray whole bumper as there were a couple of scratches where the other car pushed the bumper back.

The quote all inclusive of parts, labour and vat was £675.00.

They had the car from Thursday till Monday evening so gave me a brand new mini with 210 miles on the clock as a loan car with nothing extra to pay. When they took the bumper off, it had a small split in the back from being pushed in so they repaired it with fiberglass. On to of that when they resprayed the bumper, they fixed all the scrapes at the bottom and fully detailed the car on return.

If you really do want the car done by BMW go to a couple other dealers for a quote as the one you went to is just taking the piss.
