Headed to the Nurburgring last Thursday and a few words on the whole thing. The first is that the Ring matches its kudos. I have done plenty of track days and nothing compares to this place. The Friday afternoon was quite quiet and got the first lap in. Sweaty palms and a fast pulse and on the car went. It is a fantastic, amazing track but requires real focus and an awarenes of your inability to know what is coming around the next corner or over the next crest and drive accordingly. This means the many GT2 and GT3 Porshces come past you at real speed but with good awareness it's OK. I was limited by my lack of track knowledge and my main advice for those going for the first time is to stay well within your confort zone. This track bites. On the Friday a Honda S2000 hit the Armco hard and a biker went down but everyone was OK. The Saturday evening session was shut within 6 minutes of being open when a UK Honda Civic had a big accident. It didn't look good for car or driver and was a real reality check.
The Z4M felt as good as always but it would have been personal suicide to really ring it's neck over this first visit.
So, it's great, like no-where else I have driven, but needs respect.
The general atmosphere was bang on. We stayed at the Blau Ecke and I would recommend it to anyone. Good value and with the vast majorty of their residents driving the ring plenty of cars and car talk over a few beers in the evening. On the Saturday we headed int the Eiffel mountains and found some great roads with plenty of hairpins and scenary.
If you want to max out your car then get on the A1 on a Sunday morning. Straight, derestricted autobahn. Car hit 171mph (clock speed) and it's a strange feeling cruising with a VXR8 at 160mph for 15 minutes
So, if you haven't been then go but go with the knowledge that this track will chew you up and spit you out if you don't give it respect.

Sounds like you had a good time. I'm now, after saying that once was enough,thinking of going again in September.......must resist.....must resist.....
