Replica Wheel/Tyre Combos

Hi All

Picking up my 2.0 SE Roadster on Friday - can't wait! :driving:

What are folks' thoughts on the replica wheel/tyre packages that are available nowdays? My Z4 will be coming with 17" alloys, but I'm thinking that perhaps in the future, maybe when I need new tyres, I might upgrade to 18" wheels. I've seen various replica packages online and, although they're obviously not genuine BMW wheels, they look pretty good (without seeing them in the flesh, obviously).

Are the tyres you get with these packages generally decent (not that I know much about tyres anyway! )? Any particular website recommendations?

Why not consider branded wheels that aren't replicas, or do you want it to look original?

Tyres will be rubbish but you can upgrade them for a price.

I have the 19" M6 wheel/tire replica combo from modbargains.com and I've been extremely impressed so far.

If I were to change I would prob go for 18" CSL replicas, and pay the extra to have PS2's put on, or failing that the new GY Assym's.

I know it has been said before on here, but the tyres are the interface between you and the road, it's worth paying that little bit extra to keep you right way up :D

That's good to know - I can't say that I am very knowledgable about tyres

I obviously know that more expensive tyres are generally 'better', in that they offer more grip through better compounds that they have. I general, what kind of price are you expected to pay per tyre for a decent make/compound?

Hmm, I have looked at branded wheels, but I'd probably prefer to keep them original looking I think.

You might want to have a look at this thread if you havent laready seen it.

I've just got some 18in MV3 replica wheels (you see these alot on the new 3 series coupe) and have been pretty impressed with them so far- difficult to tell the difference between them and the real ones. They came with budget UHP tyres and these seem OK as well, but I'll reserve final judgement until I've used them a bit more. From what I can gather they are OK but won't last as long as the premium brands. The car certainly feels a lot better on the 18in rims compared with the 16in ones.
