Replacing the Facelift Fog Lights

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of how to replace the front Fogs on the facelift model? I have the dreaded foggy fog lights and will be ordering replacements I think. :(

My mechanic has just quoted me £80 EACH from BMW plus half hour fitting, silly money just for fogged lenses

That actually sounds quite good, Coopers BMW in Ipswich quoted me £292 for the job. Was going to have a look myself, but still like you say these seem expensive for fogs, especially as they will probably go again. Never read a post saying the design has been improved. Criminal really considering how many of us have had this issue. :x

Very easy DIY job - 10 mins at most. Only 2 bolts and a screw hold each lamp in place and the lamps are removed through the access panel in front of the front wheel.

Stand in front of the car and feel the bumper just inboard of the lamp and you will feel the screw going vertically upwards. The bolts are either end of the lamp at the rear through the access panel.

It can be done without removing the front wheels but it helps to have small hands.

Oooh that sounds like a project that I should be looking into...

Bargain. The normally reasonable Ford dealer gave me the bad news that a cracked fog light on the S-Max was going to be £120 plus fitting! Haggled and got the labour free while it was in for a service

Thanks very much Half Colin I think it's something I can tackle in an a spare hour. Now where to buy the lights! :D

You might want to look at this - it's the whole front bumper with grilles, wrong colour, but has fog lights that are only 8 months old : http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=33335

Not sure if it's sold, or if the seller will do you a deal for the fogs on their own, but the lot is less than you've been quoted for your fogs. Spare bumper just in case ?

Thanks for the link bing, that's my for sale thread.

I'm not overly keen on splitting the fogs and the bumper, as I haven't even unwrapped it after delivery, and would rather just sell it as a whole, but for the right offer I might be convinced.

On a totally removed but smug topic, I just won an ebay auction for the lower front grille for my new Z4M bumper project, brand new in packaging for £6 :D :D :D

There can only be one issue with these lights, and that's the join between the lens and the back. I would run a silicone bead around this seal first before splashing out on new lights.

Also check the drain hole is clear and even add another hole at the base.

There is nothing to loose by trying this.

 wasn't trying to complicate your sale, just remembered it cos you snaffled it literally minutes before I got permission from SWMBO :D, and the numbers add up. Sort of. I'd take it off you as I want fogs and a grille, and I'm sure a spare bumper will come in handy, but with a trip to Scotland coming up that's going to empty my pockets, I can't right now. Of course if you can hold into it till March...

Great job on the grille

Luckily I don't have a SWMBO, its my money and my flat so my rules  She has to put up with it :poke:

I've got this bumper and a Z4M bumper taking up part of the flat, making the dining table unusable, plus brake discs, pads, spacers and other bits waiting to go on...

If the bumper sells complete or in parts, I'll update the listing. If not and I still have it in march let me know if you're still after it.

I've been thinking of ditching the foggy facelift fog lights in favour of LED daytime running lights. Anyone tried that?

As this is so common does anyway know if the design/components have been improved or will it just happen again on replacements? I would also be interested to hear of any other options such as running lights, non oem that maybe would prevent this once and for all?
