Replacing Stereo and Amplifier

I'm new to this so any help / advice / correction is welcomed ;)

I have recently purchased a 2004 Z4. I want to replace the stereo (I bought the head-unit I wanted with the harness, and experienced the problems that it seems many before me have experienced due to the fact mine is the amplified system)

correct so far??

Ok, so my plan is to install the new head unit, run some new audio wiring to the boot (leaving all the power connections in place cos they work fine), where I plan to replace the current amplifier with a new one, then connect to the wiring that already runs to the speakers from the current amplifier. Thus leaving all the existing wiring in place in case I need to change it back!!

Can anyone see why this won't work?? Or should I do this a different way......... I really want to avoid having to completely re-wire to the speakers if I can avoid it :/

The subs in the 10 speaker system have a high ohm rating which will cause you new amp to clip an shutdown, unsure on the ratings of all the speakers in that system
If you add which system you have number if speakers do you have dsp, I'm sure you'll get the advice you need

This might be worth a read if you have the dsp set up

I count 8 speakers????? (2 behind each seat, 1 in the door, 1 in the footwell.......... am I missing any or are there different options) Is there a way to tell which system I have?

There's a basic 6 speakers
Kickwell
Tweeter in door
An the small plastic grill behind the seats
There are grills in the doors on this system but no speaker

10 speaker
As above plus doors
And a sub behind each seat instead of a storage cubby hole

Dsp
As 10 speaker system
But has dsp control via head unit
Iirc
