Replacing runflats

Going to bite the bullet ! Had enough of the rft's :headbang: been shopping around & Camskill & tyre leader are by far the best prices for michelin pilot super sports in 19" form. Anyone had any experience with tyre leader as I've been told they have let a few people down. Camskill can't get me them for a week or so Tyre leader in 2/3 days.

Thinking the same thing Kermit. How are you going to get round the warranty though? I'm trying to stop myself buying another set of 19's with pilot super sports that I cannot afford!

I've used tyre leader. I ordered staggered tyres. Two arrived two days after ordering from Germany. I had to chase for a couple of days before I got tracking details for the other two which I think came from France.

Was a bit of a headache but saved quite a bit of money.

John, what's the warranty issue?

Pretty sure the warranty is void on wheel cracking should it arise if you change from run flats Raj.

Happy to be corrected though, which is highly likely..

Wouldn't surprise me John! Though I've some opinions that rft increase the chance of cracking!

I agree that they probably contribute to cracking Raj, but any deviation from standard gives BMW a get out clause on warranty issues, no matter how lacking in common sense that may be.

I'll be very interested to know for certain though.

Hi Kermit .. I thought you where OK with them ? have you adaptive suspension ? as mine are ok

I have adaptive suspension James, but was out playing the other night & felt the car was skipping & all over the shop when hitting white lines & road repairs : :headbang: feel that the tyres are rouning the car for me. Love everything about the car apart from the tyres, have no confidence in them what's so ever.
Regarding warranty issues will have the rft's in the hut if I need them. My mates the warranty manager so should be fine.

John, I'm presuming your car is either still under manufacturers warranty or AUC warranty in which case what your saying sounds valid. I've got a BMW comprehensive insured warranty for my car (2008). I did ask them about replacing runflats and they said its a common thing that wouldn't affect my warranty. However my wheels aren't covered anyway!

Yes Raj starts to get messy with new cars under warranty. BMW like to try & get out of payouts if you modify the car, although most the clames come from cracked wheels that are not helped with solid runflats. It's the state of the UK roads

Yes mines only a few months old Raj so 3 years warranty, hence the only way round it as far as I can see would be to buy another set of rims and non run flats and keep swapping them round for servicing etc.

Kermit, how are you thinking of getting round it?

John my cars only 1year old & tyres have only 5k on them so will put them back on if have any issues. Spoke to the dealer about the terrible runflats & my intentions & they don't seem to have a problem.

I have used both Tyreleader and also Oponeo in the last twelve months and found them to be pretty reliable and very cheap. I work in the
tyre industry and couldn't match the Tyreleader price on Michelin PSS anywhere. Usually arrive within a week after being imported from Germany.

With regards to runflats are they fitted as OE on all new Z4 models as I was under the impression that certainly on the 1 and 3 series they are now
only an optional extra ?

Ok All

Do we have any E89 owners who have actually changed their run flats over ..

It would be great to hear their opinions .. does it really make such a difference? plus for me the only way round the warranty would be a spare set of rims

all the best

No, we only have this topic like once a week and it's the same questions with the same answers and people who have changed their tyres on their E89s.

That's just some of the topics on tyres and wheels and people who have changed to non RFTs. I would keep finding more but A) the threads are visible on the pages, especially page 1 and B) there is a thing called 'search' bloody use it! :headbang:

Here's the link from when I replaced mine. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=70300&hilit=michelin

Transformed the ride for me. Couldn't of put up with the RFT's after coming from an E85 where I'd also ditched them.
Also the previous owner had several of the 326 alloys replaced due to cracking. Opinion suggests that the hard walls of the RFT could be contributing to the cracking of these and other BMW alloys especially in the larger sized rims.
Only time will tell. :)

I know James, it is a bit of a minefield as you get input from anyone and everyone. Maybe we need a thread where people JUST give their opinions on their car I.e. Like the model, year, suspension set up, rims and what and when they changed them and their opinion on how it changed the car
