I just had a new motor put in, the roof worked well that day, I hadnt used it in 2 weeks and now it doesnt work.

I brought it to the shop and was told I need hydraulic lines. Can anyone help me with finding the correct parts and where to buy.

Much appreciated :driving:

Welcome to the forum. What makes them think it needs new hydraulic lines? And which one? There are 4. '13' and '14' run from the motor across to the other side. '11' and '12' are shorter and run to the same side as the motor. Not all will have failed.

I am going to assume the new motor was put back in the same dark, damp hole it came out of?

What are the symptoms? Is the motor actually running?
It is possible they didn't put enough fluid in, so when it self-bled then the level dropped too low and now air is getting into the lines. If a hydraulic line has failed then you'll see oil dripping out in front of one of the rear wheels.

To arbitrarily say it needs new lines suggests they are just guessing at the next component in line.

Thanks for the welcome,

The mechanic just said the fluid leaked out and left a puddle so I dont know what line, he also said he refilled the fluid and the roof worked but then the fluid leaked out. Are they that expensive that replacing all would hurt?

The motor was relocated to the trunk.

The motor doesnt run at all. It did a few weeks ago.

I much appreciate your help, I think the mechanic is good, but not sure how much effort it would take for the complete diagnosis, so he said the lines also given that the puddle under the car. I will check what side

OK, that's fair enough and answers all the doubts I had. (Although, with no fluid, the motor should still spin the pump?)
It is usually the bottom line on one side that leaks. Although the line is mostly flexible, the end is a 90 degree metal bend. If water accumulates in the well then the bottom hose corrodes and a pinhole occurs. It empties the reservoir very quickly.
The majority of people on this forum tend to be UK based and I'm guessing from your terminology that you may be over the pond?
A complete set of good secondhand pipes sold over here a couple of weeks back for £150. You would of course have to factor in delivery/shipping costs as well. I suggest you try to locate some locally first, but if not then someone over here should be able to help out.

enuff-zed is totally on point, there are long and short lines to hinge lifters. Since you're in the USA the short lines are those on the driver's side and the long lines are those on the passenger side. You're going to need to talk with your mechanic and ask which side of the car had the leak so you can get the right size line. I'm guessing you'd be ok with a long line on the driver's side. However, if the leak is on the passenger side a short line wouldn't work.

https://www.ecstuning.com is one parts source but, just google BMW parts and you'll find many. As noted by another poster ebay is another good source but, again you need the right size line.

I wouldn't recommend it. There would be so much free line that you'd run the risk of it fouling on the roof or kinking. And trying to cable tie it all out of the way would be a nightmare. Plus the short ones would be cheaper.
