Replacing Rear RFT's Only ?

Will you PM me or post the local installers?

You coming over tonight to help me drink all that Vodka and beer I brought back?

Firstly I have done this earlier on this year, had RFT's on the back and non RFt's on the front, the reason was i put the part worn RFT's back on the rear for a track day, then left them on for a second track day a month later after which i switched back to the non RFT's, so, i've got to say all the fears that have been mentioned are totally unfounded, i ran this set up for approx 160 laps of Croft and approx 600-700 road miles in the time, the car was superb on track and it was fine on the road though there was a difference in the 'feel' of the rear of the car, from my experience i would say you have no problem at all running RFT along with non RFT.

secondly you talk about switching the whole set and opting for a 'punt on the Falken FK452's well this is the tyre i have on my 3.0i and i have to say it is simply the best tyre i have ever run and i have done all the usual on previous BMW's, PS2's, potenza's, Dunlop's, conti's. it totally inspres the chassis of my Z and it is not a 'Punt for you to get these it is a great choice and you will never go back to the over priced branded stuff again, try here for prices,

Go to the Tirerack website and follow the links - they will give you a list all of your local tire stores that have agreed to work with their customers.

Ski, with the 265's on the rear, I assume there are no rubbing issues and the rim can take the extra 10mm ?

No rubbing issues and to boot I have 15mm spacers in the rear.. :)

Cheers Plowy  , I had managed to track that Falken tyres web site down, but they are out of stock on the fronts at the moment :? , so it may be that the I end up with the 452's on the rear and RFT's on the front until they are in stock anyway !

With regards to the 265's on the reas, the Si Sport has 18 x 8.5j rims on the rear and apparently the max width recommened is 255 ?, the 9J's are needed for the 265's so I may stick to the 255's.

Unless the new ones are out DO NOT BUY GOODYEAR EAGLE F1's... certainly the GSD3's have been discontinued... you will struggle to get replacements if you need them.

They are a great tyre, but you need to be able to get replacements for whatever you get
Eeeeekkkkkk... :slaphead:

...I just ordered four of these for my SLK, I did recall looking here before for reviews etc but only found this now. Should I cancel them on the basis that I might not get a replacement if I need it, or should I buy a couple more, although they are different sizes front and rear?

Don't know what to do now :scratchhead:

The price was very favourable.

The GSD3's were replaced by Assymetrics.

I had a puncture on Friday and now need a new tyre. No one stocks the rear size so have to wait until Tuesday to get it fitted. A couple of places have said that there's another new version coming out and so Goodyear stocks are low in preperation for the new style :headbang:

Hmmmm, I ordered some different ones instead, Continental Sport Contact 3 which is the OEM tyre anyway, should be safe enough with that I think, cost me another £90 though.

Alright guys
I'm looking at getting two new rear tyres... if I ditch the RFT and go for the Falken's I will get 4 tyres for les than the 2.
Where have you guys got Falkens from and where did you get them fitted? In the UK.
Cheers

http://www.blackcircles.com were cheapest for me for a number of different makes of tyre, but I am an inch smaller than you

Also try http://www.mytyres.co.uk or http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ and also http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/index.asp and http://www.camskill.co.uk/ (probably try them first?)

We ran Goodyear F1's on the traffic cars and they were a fanastic tyre, the new tread pattern (latest model) are now being fitted to the cars now and are just as good if not better (in the wet especially) than the old model. The tread pattern did look better on the old model compared to the new model.
