Replacing Carver Sat Nav system with normal or aftermarket setup

If you want to ignore that advice and experiment anyway, I may know someone with an x3 cubby in a box in their loft

i didnt know about this x3 cubby....might be interested to check it out tbh although i was originally thinking to make something made out of thin mdf and just covered in some acceptable material like even faux leather.

Just fit a non Sat Nav dashboard. It takes a bit of time but isn't that difficult at all.

I'd be interested in the Sat Nav kit..

thats defo too much hassle mate. we can chat on PM about the navi kit.

Just had a look at the shape of the business stereo head unit vs navi head init and they are different shapes! So can’t see how it would fit

Is it easy enough to fit the standard radio? And then what about the amp? Is that going to be complicated to replace with the carver dsp amp? Any issues with steering controls at all.

If anyone know someone who can get this done around Berkshire, let me know pls. Cheers

I'd pick up a Z4 business unit from eBay for a few quid and try. As I said above just disconnect the screen and DVD drive and then try it.

Ignore above. I think I was looking at the wrong maybe although it said it was for a z4. I’ve since seen other stereos that look the same shape

Update

I removed the screen and replaced headunit but my brodit connection to iPhone isn’t working now as aux in although still working as a charger.
Ordered a separate aux connection. Waiting for that.

Need a special tool to get the Navi drive out so need to get hold of one of those.

Thinking to form a shelf out of foam to fill the gap in the dash and cover it with leather or something similar.
