Replacing Angel Eye Bulbs

Hey guys and gals,

I know this is an old topic but what is the best and most cost effective way to change the yellow angel eyes to a bright white color? A friend of mine uses the HID for the angel eyes and told me that it will overheat quite easily and recommends LED instead. I want something that can be very visible in the daylight and not blinding at night. If you have any recommendations, please let me know! I'm basically a Z4 noob since I just got mine less than a week ago.

I found these while searching around, not sure how well it would work.

You'll need more than 20w.

I bought mine from eBay and think they were 60w per side. They're not too bad in daylight, but still not like the new models and I don't believe they're as bright as the lux bulbs. However I think they were a quarter the price of lux ones.

I've just ordered 80w (40w a side) Cree Angel Eye lamps from ebay. £33.99.
Should be here by Wednesday but if you can hang on until then I'll let you know what they're like.

Don't expect anything to be as bright as the facelift cars. I've changed mine and the brightness is about that of the stock bulbs only white instead of yellow.

Facelift cars have entirely different reflector/ring design made for bright led illumination. Only way to get this in non facelift cars is to change the entire headlamp assembly.

Cheers Maniac.....I remember your install of the 20w's a few years back. Still OK or have you changed them again.?

Nope still the same ones running.. I've actually been thinking of changing them back to stock yellow because I saw a black e89 like mine recently running them and though you know in a sea of bright white led DRLs on almost every car now the yellow looked quite mean.

Don't fall into the trap of believing that the higher wattage they are, the brighter they'll be because that's not always true.

I recently purchased and fitted the LUX H8 160 LED lights from Cartronics! They're amazing, by far the best out there but they're not cheap.

As always, you'll get what you pay for!

Tip - mine to fit were bloody difficult, a bit of vaseline around the rubber seal made all the difference!

I prefer the white Angel eyes but I'm not keen on the latest very bright ones, look a bit chavy imo.

I'm not sure what rating mine are as the previous owner split the units and put them in, but I'm pleased with them.

I'll see if I can find out.
