Replacing 19" RFT advice

Hi all,

I have been looking round at the advice on here about replacing RF tires. Apologies for the newbie question or if its a repeat.

Mine is currently fitted with Bridgestone Potenza all round:

225/35 R19Y
255/30 R19Y

A lot of the recommended tires don't seem to come in the 255/30 rear configuration?

Am I missing something or is there a secret site to buy these from :D

Appreciate your guidance

It’s getting tougher as most other cars run either 265/275 or 35 profile

Here’s some links for stock size

Hi Rob,
I’ve just changed the run flats on my 35iS to Continental Sport Contact 7’s so the same sizes that you’re looking for.
Feels like a different car!
Should have done it sooner but really needed to get two years out of them after buying the car.

I binned a brand new set of the potenza runflats- changed to michelin pilot sport 4S & very pleased.

Lots of tires available in the stock sizes.

Actually there has been some decline in options in 255/30 19. For example GY Assy 5 was available in 255/30 19…GY Assy 6 is not ..

Yep - I never implied otherwise.

But it’s true for all wheel sizes, no matter what it is.

Some tires are available in your size, some are not.

My point is, there is plenty of choice for tires that do fit.

You could go with 35 profile on the rears if it helps with choice. It doesn't make any difference to the car!

Michelin 4S are available in EVERY size, though. And they are expensive, very expensive.

Being pleased at 'binning' £700 worth of (perfectly good) tyres is not something I would be. I could buy nearly a week's food for that! :)

Many thanks to all for taking the time to reply.....

What my original post should have said was reading the comments the Dunlop Super Sport and the GY Asy 6's seemed to be the recommendations.......both of which I couldn't find for the rears.

I will take a look at the links shared and also the Michelin 4s & Conti SC7's :-)

Cheers

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t delighted to bin them.

But regardless of their newness, I didn’t buy the car to live with the shocking ride they gave.

So ‘perfectly good’ <> newness IMHO.

Bridgestone potenza RFTs on 19” wheels are an abomination whether new or not :)

Hi Rob

I’ve just replaced my 326s and RFTs with Sport Contact 7s 19s 235/35 265/30 and Veemans alloys 2 weeks ago. Really pleased with ride and OEM look. Should have done it last year. Always learning

Wonder occasionally how much more 'market penetration' the E89 would have had if BMW hadn't foolishly put it on Bridgestone runflats.

Even now, if you're running yours on them, you don't know how good yours is.

For anyone out there on the Bridgestone RFTs (as standard) & wondering if they will really notice any difference by switching - YES YOU WILL.

It's not a subtle change that only a few will even notice - it's night & day, gets rid of all the cracks & bangs over minor road imperfections & just wait until you hit a small pothole.

The RFTs smash into them, making you think you have actually broken the car. On accasion, you will have!

They are like riding on concrete tubes.

If you can afford it - change them & thank me later.

Hi Rob
I changed out the run flats with Dunlop sport Maxx big difference and very happy I did, I had the 255-30-19 rears as Dunlop did them 3 years ago, not sure about 255-35-19 that they only do now, has anyone else fitted the Dunlop in the 35 profile?

I swapped 19" Bridgestone RFs for 18" NRFs and it's like having a totally different car!

* an abomination *

Great word! I need to confess I’m still on ‘perfectly good’ RFTs but desperate to get them off for a set of Conti7 … if anyone wishes to make a donation to my ‘abomination deletion’ fund, please find me on JustGiving 😉

Made me laugh when I saw a table of 19" tyres, and the bridgestone potenza RFT was stone cold bottom of about 60 or 70 tyres that had been reviewed.

Part worn tyres from the poundshop trolley were better rated in all categories :)
