Replacement wheel nuts

Somehow lost the "secret" nut from a rear wheel, thinking about replacing all of them with shiny new ones - Can someone please let me know what length etc I need and if it is related to wheel size - mine are 18" 107's
Also, has anyone replaced the nuts with aftermarket - which are good and which to stay away from?
Thanks heaps!

First thing I will say is that three months ago I bought a car which (according to the seller) came with fairly new wheel-nuts. These wheel nuts were bought in January 2024, fitted sometime in 2024, and are mainly shiny but with significant rust staining as of March 2025. I do NOT recommend them if they can't stay shiny for a year.

Second thing from me... This seems to be the standard length of bolts for OEM E85 / E86 wheels.

Length [mm]: 49
Thread Length [mm]: 23
Screw length below head [mm]: 26

But I have questions too...

I'm looking out for wheel nuts to run with spacers. Presumably the correct bolts for use with spacers is lengths as above, plus the width of the spacer you're using? Presumably you REALLY don't want to use bolts that are too short, but how much room is there to play with on the other side? If OEM is 49mm and you add a 10mm spacer, how much more than 59mm can you go before there are problems?

Have a look at this site they do bolt and spacers https://precision-auto.co.uk/produc...eel-bolts-for-spacers-bmw-z4-e-series-models/

They are the company who also sell on ebay and whose chrome bolt turn rusty in under a year!

Fair enough, I guessed they were. I don't use chrome bolts so I wouldn't know.

I seem to remember reading that you can't really go more than a couple of mm longer without issues.

If I was thinking about fitting spacers I'd probably go for a stud conversion kit, then you really would have nuts. That way if you want to change the size of the spacers they'll still fit, rather than needing a set of bolts for each size.

I bought a set of chrome bolts, but have never fitted them. Maybe just as well if they go rusty that quickly!

I have one set of bolts already that came with the spacers I bought. I can't see myself buying more than one more pair of spacers and 10 bolts at most.

Use this to find the correct OE part number: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/select

In the past I used OE bolts. Last time I got Febi bolts off Autodoc. So far, so good.

I've given up with locking nuts - they won't stop someone determined to get your wheels.

Thanks, I might just change all 4 to OEM, the issue is they will look different - new - so I might have to change all 20... duh

Febi were a good match for OE and about half the price. So worth considering good aftermarket bolts if you're going to swap all of them.

I really don't move fast... I bought spacers over 3 months ago now, and have just checked and they came with 18 no. 40mm long (thread length) threaded bolts. OEM seems to be 26mm or so, and adding 14mm to use with 12mm and 15mm spacers looks spot on. The bolts need cleaning up and painting.

I think I am going to buy 4 locking nuts to match (Ā£18 from Killer Offset who seem to be a brand owned by Stance UK), leaving me with 2 spare non-locking nuts.

The Febi ones look decent.
