replacement seats

My seat problem is becoming serious. My GF cannot sit in my car for longer than 5 mins. its to the point now where she is almost refusing to get into the car. if we go anywhere we use her crappy beat up P reg 106.

basically she had an accident and has slight nerve damage in her hip. if she sits on a seat that is too curved (any seat) she get terrible pain in her legs that results in her not being able to walk. the other day we had to go to the shops (about 4 miles away in speke) and it was that bad that she took a bus home.

so i have 2 choices. replace the seat or replace the car.

which other BMW seats fit into the Z? i sat in a 1 and 6 series that had flat seats at the base.

my other thought was to buy a seat base foam and cut the bolsters off as they are the bits that push up on her leg/hip and cause the issue, get the bit re trimmed in an alacantra (for a bit of grip) and fit it to the seat base.. how easy is it to do this?

What seats do you have, sport or standard?

If standard then i would say you're not going to get much luck in this car... My mum struggles getting in mine due to the shape of the door, how low it is etc

Hmm that isn't good.

But personally I found the standard Z4 seats in pre-facelift cars a bit crappy to be honest.

I'm assuming you mean the front to back profile is like a curve? Why not try raise the seat a bit and then tilt the front of the seat right down so it's as flat as possible? Iirc they can go pretty flat if that is what is required... both on standard and m-sport seats.

If that it still a problem then neither seat will help in the Z4 I don't think...

Could you not make a booster out of memory foam, could even have it trimmed in OEM leather?

ryan, no she fell down a flight of stairs. she didn't break any thing but the nerves are fucked. just moving the TV and twisting wrong = hobbling for days.
popey ... thought of that and tried cushions/foam to make one but puts the rest of your body wrong for the seat back.

no no not low.... flat the seat in the car is fine its the shape of the base of the seat.

and yes that pug is bad ....very bad .... you cant imagine....

Ah ok so it's the side to side shape, rather than the front to back shape?

Do you have m-sport seats or standard seats?

M-sports are quite tight across the legs vs the standard seats, so if you DO have sports seats you might benefit from swapping to a standard one.

standard SE seats, which makes it more annoying deffo not the sport.

Obviously in this case it's not really the comfort it's a specific shape that is impacting your girlfriends injury... but the m-sports are different enough that it might be ok.

I'd certainly try them out if possible somehow before going for that option though!

The only alternatives are things like Recaro or the BMW Performance buckets. I'm not sure how likely it is those will be better for the specific injury than others.


Worst case just go find a 106 seat from a scrapper and make an adaptor frame haha

Why not consult an auto trimmers and get some advice . I recently had a small roof repair on my roadster by a local indi pendant and I would imagine they would have a suggestion or two . This problem can't be unique.
