The latter has 8 connectors with up to 54 wires, in total >>400 wires into one Single Box.
Which ordinary mechanic will be able to correctly diagnose problems with these concentrated electronic components in the future?

This is complete nonsense coming from someone who has no idea what he is talking about.
There are a total of 6 sensor cables in the rear roof shell that must be replaced in a timely manner.
2 left (white & brown), 2x2 right (yellow & brown, green & brown).
These wires break due to their limited quality for use where they are bent over 180° every time the roof is opened or closed.
On each side of the roof there are 3 arches over 180° where the wires in 2 arches are overloaded.

Weil's besser hierhin gehört: Heute habe ich jemanden kennengelernt, bei dem N52-Farid eine Cabrio-Dachreparatur durchgeführt hat. Mit katastrophalem Ergebnis: Nach wenigen Wochen schon wieder angebrochene Drähte, da diese Crimpverbinder mitten in den Biegebereich platziert worden sind...
Have you ever heard of a workshop that only replaces a single brake pad if the brake sensor fails? Hopefully not.
But when it comes to roof repairs, every repair shop will make this attempt to get your money for the same problem multiple times.
Btw, a complete loom replacement takes about 6 hours plus ~ 1.000€ for parts. That's way apart of 10k regardless of currency.

Hope you already read @LordLolzeye's "harness replacing" thread before starting to dismantle the rear roof shell:
old screws are glued and have to be warmed up before opening, shims have to be collected in a documented way per screw and so on and so on ... !
New screws are required for re-mounting.

It's up to you who you believe.
It's not against you personally, but rather the nonsense that the workshops regularly spout, whether BMW or independent.
Just got the same info minutes ago from a German E89 driver: 11.000€ were estimated by a BMW garage.
I will continue to clearly warn against accepting such cost estimates. It is fraud.
The more often we publicly denounce something like this here, the fewer those affected accepted it.

Well, yeah it is ridiculous and I didn’t believe him. My guess is they're not up to the job and don’t want to do it so just threw an insane figure at me. It worked cos I walked out and won’t be taking the car back to them again.
The difficulty is finding a decent reputable garage in the UK to do it. The indies near me have said they won’t touch convertible roofs as its too advanced for them. Maybe I should drive over to Germany and get it done there

There are some recommendations available here in the forum.
The indies that don't do it are the good ones! They know their limits.
