Replacement Manifold Cats for 2.0i

Hello all,

Looks like at least one of the cats on my 2005 2.0i needs replacing (for Info it ticked over 100,000 miles this weekend). Engine management light is on and my fault reader shows an issue with the cat system (the manifold isn’t cracked). It’s been into a couple of shops and they agree it would appear at least one of the cats is ready for a change. Interestingly the mechanic said the “dodgy” one (bank 1) shows signs of being removed in the past.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to obtain replacements for the least wallet busting amount. I have a mechanic who can change them for an hourly rate if the best way is to source them for the best price and have them fitted independently..

Also I understand it is possible to have them refurbished (probably not the right term). Is that a option worth considering?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

It’s got to be worth trying cataclean first before spending out on replacements? It’s news to me the cats are replaceable within the manifold as well? :?

Reporting back.... I have run Cataclean through the car, no discernible impact on the initial problem. Still running lumpy and my code reader is shown no MOT failure in emissions for several reasons.

Appears safe to assume the cats are in need of changing . So back to my original post, any suggestions on the best source of replacement(s) in terms of not breaking the bank? I assume this is an issue that occurs from time to time, hence there is some experience on the subject out there.

Thanks,

Kevan

Anyone with any advice on cat replacement? Latest fault codes show its most likely the rear cat causing the main problem, I plan to change that first in the hope it may solve the problem and be less expensive than the front one in the manifold.

Any suggestions on sourcing a replacement rate cat?
