Just about to put my winter wheels on, and I thought I'd treat myself to a set of new centre caps. Question is, should I go genuine BMW or just a copy on eBay?
Had both....the ebay soecials are actually pretty good for a couple of years, dont know if they would last much longer though?
Mind you, my 2013 car has had 2 replaced and they were genuine, so dont have a much greater life.
What he above said. Go for the ones with a large number of lugs and those with few don't fit very tightly and rotate. I needed to pack mine with insulating tape, although they have lasted 3+ years and only recently started to look a bit tired.
I put my winter wheels on at the weekend and was interested to note the corrosion around the hub - a couple of the wheels needed a good kicking to loosen them up. There was actually condensation being the centre cap on a couple of the wheels. Anyway, as a precaution, I wiped a good coating of ACF-50 around the hub.
As set of OEs were only £34, I think, and look ... er ... original.
(OE centre caps for a 911 are £134 and look like the £20 made-in-China, Ebay specials. But you know they're not, because it says 'MADE IN GARMANY' on the back.)
I would go genuine- for the few extra quid it is you get the piece of mind more than anything else. I’m sure some of the eBay specials are good, but you just never know for sure.
