Replacement Air Filter Question?

Hi guys,

I'm just about to service my 2.5 Z4, and was looking for some advice on the best replacement air filter?

I was considering fitting a K&N panel filter (33-2070 I believe), but have just read a couple of articles (not necessarily Z4 related) where people have said that they wouldn't use them due to the filters oil coating the MAF and causing problems.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about that, and if any of you have fitted a K&N and experienced any problems etc?

Also, if you would avoid the K&N.. what would you suggest instead?

Thanks for any advice

Russ

I have a green filter, its not a pannel because its in a diffrent air box but its an oiled filter and I havent had any maf issues yet

As I said I have a diffrent intake, so the the noise is down to that

But I would imagine you would get a little more noise from a filter

People that had MAF issues from oiled filters had over oiled their filter.

Been running a K&N for about 5 years now. Never had any issues, but then I do clean and oil it correctly.

Previously I've stated it makes no difference at all to performance nor sound, as the OEM filter is great anyway and I'd change back without concerns.

If you read the wider web you'll find plenty of data about K&N's letting more dirt through and over time in dusty environments can cause engine wear.

Stick with the oem air filter.

No point going aftermarket, any effect would be negligible/placebo.

I fitted a K&N and within fifty miles the car went into limp mode, maybe nothing to do with the filter but seemed strange, that was on my previous 2.0.....

I have run K&N OEM replacement filters on virtually every car I have owned and never had a moments bother with them. if you plan on keeping a car for a while then they make economic sense if not just stick to OEM equivalent stuff (UFI filters are excellent). performance difference is negligible
