upgraded heater / AC controls with one from a facelift model

Had to remove air vents, radio, 2 screws below radio and access panel below heater controls. once all removed it was a case of bushing the unit backwards as it only held in with spring clips. remove 2 wire connectors from back and remove unit through hole below, will not fit through radio position.

Anyway to install do the reverse and then you have to run DIS v57 and delete transport mode otherwise AC and blower dont work.

All done and interior look more modern

Quick update, checked again and as navid.v said the heater wouldn't blow cold on low setting. So I opened up old unit which is held together by 6 plastic clips, and then removed new unit from car and swapped fronts over. All you have to do is line up 3 pins to the circuit board which is for the turn controls, reassemble and fit to car. All work fine.

Is it really necessary to remove the vents and radio to do this job?

You could try doing it through the access panel under the dash, just don't be able to see what you are doing.

Vents and radio take about a minute to remove. ( I've done it a few times )
So might aswel do it too
