Replace Plastic Film Inside Roof?

I have a 2005 2.5i automatic soft top. The top is in overall good shape, but I'm noticing that some of the thin plastic film in between the liner and canvas top is shedding. Sometimes, I find bits and pieces in the car. I also have noticed other posts about removing and/or fixing the top show that plastic film tearing and/or just deteriorating.

First, can it be replaced? I haven't seen any part number for it on the realoem site.... not that I would expect it to be sold separately, but you never know.

Has anyone taken it our and replaced it with something similar? Or, maybe it should just be removed completely so there's no more shedding?

The headliner is in near perfect condition. I'll look more carefully at it to see if I can come up with a way to line it with a film... if it's even necessary. It's never once leaked....
