Replace center plastic trim - under handbrake and trim

They radio actually has to be removed and there are clips around it to remove the face on it. (I'm assuming the Z4 radio is assembled similar to on e46's)

Don't think it's ring damage, it's just the paint BMW used pre-2006 on some of their interior bits. It rubs off easily and they did not put a clear coat on it.

The SILVER bits (door grab handles + spokes on steering wheel) all have a nice thick clear coat to keep it in good shape.

The dark gray silver painted bits (under the e-brake, center vent, radio, speaker grills, interior door release handles, and trim around the exterior mirror controls) all don't have a clear coat. If you put a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth and wipe you'll end up with paint on the cloth. Really un-BMW like. Unfortunately the primer they put under the paint is black, so you end up with black knicks and scratches once the dark gray paint rubs off. I bought some black leather and cut that and put it in place under the e-brake handle until I have a chance to remove the trim and repaint.

Anyone know how to remove the trim on SMG cars? Pulling on the boot of the shifter doesn't work like on manual equipped cars.

It's a little silly that the silver painted interior parts (door grab handles, steering wheel trim) have clear coat, but the darker gray painted interior pieces (under the e-brake, around the mirror controls, ash tray, center vent, and radio) don't have anything to protect them. I have wear marks under my e-brake, on the sunglass holder, and around the volume knob on the radio. Want to pull it all out and give it a respray.

Digging up an old thread but at least I have searched the forum....

Does anyone know the colour code for the plastic trim then? I would rather re-spray than buy and fit new bits.
 
Hello, how do the front speaker grills come off? mine are tatty and id like to replace/repair them
