I've been waiting for my front brake bads to die after a couple of mot advisories.

Yellow brake light now coming on intermittantly so car in garage.

Before looking at the car they are telling me ill need to pay 35 quid for a new sensor.

Any ideas if this is really necessary or if just the usual fishing for work ?

I am thinking if light only just come on and is intermittant it will be ok.

Low milage...just 2000 a year.

Cheers

How easy to replace front ?

Not done it but plenty of others have - if the pads are out for replacement it can't be that difficult.

Part no.12 and shows as $22 on the US website

If the lights come on then the sensor has done its job and needs replacing, so not 'fishing', but as per Alan's pricing, they are being a bit too expensive for a cheap part and a 2 minute job.

EDIT - it's a straight forward clip in and plug in to a connector

As others have said very easy to fit, took me a couple minutes. I sourced a Pagid sensor from Euro Car Parts for £11. There are cheaper available on EBay but wasn't sure about quality so went with a brand I recognised.

At £35 I can only assume the price your garage is quoting is for a genuine BMW part.

The front sensor is extremely easy to replace. About 5 mins with the wheel off. The rear one is more of a pain in the ass so try and avoid wearing through this one.
