Replace alcantara patches on seats

Breaker, can I ask you...I'm thinking of having the alcantara changed on my seats, where the seat belt makes the fabric black....do you think the fabric could be changed with cream leather instead? Or anyone else with the white design interior think this is an option?

It's an interesting question, I know on the old SLK55 the seats used to have alcantara patches in a similar position, but on the beige interior, they used leather instead, presumably to stop marking. Excuse the crap pics.

I think it would work well

Ask a coach-builder, anything is possible. I don't get the issue as presumably my height/seating position is different.

I'm sure it can be done. A good shop can re-cover the seats in just about any material.

Yep anything can be done seeing as the panel is stitched in. Just make sure they use the right leather as the seat belt could take the top finish off it.

I am going to ask someone to look at it for me, or perhaps taking into account how good BMW Customer Service have been, I might give them a try and see if I can get new coverings for the front.....

Hi there I'm a upholsterer by trade trust me don't even think about this.
You'll never be happy with the results a few years ago we did the rear seating in
A large camper / rv type thing and we thought a car trimmers would be better suited to
Doing the front seats as upholstery and car trimming are different games altogether.
They came recommended we supplied the leather and they made a total mess of what were
Quite simple seats .
In my opinion the only way of getting a good job of seats recovered is when the covers are bought
From the manufacturers.
In fact the alcantara is far more robust than the leather
The best way to clean it is get a white clean face cloth
(this way you will see the dirt coming off )
with some mild hand soap on it rinse and wring it
Out until the soap is almost rinsed away then lightly rub the alcantara with the cloth not too damp it will look like
You've ruined it but when it's dry it will look perfect trust someone who knows alcantara has a martindale rub test far higher
Than leather.

Would have to say that two years after Guiseley's champagne side bolster was mended by A S Pickering, you still can't tell its been mended. Will take pics at the weekend if it helps

I see that would drive me up the wall
Try giving the seat belt itself a good clean same method I gave for the alcantara see if this reduces it
I'm 6'5" tall so the seat belt only touches the seat when I'm not sitting in the car.
So I never get it in this state.
