Im going to have a go at the brakes myself tomorrow, thanks to steve for the TIS guides.

Quick question, will i need to bleed the brakes at all? Im hoping not.
 
You shouldn't have to, just a fluid top up after if new pads don't bring the level back to the max mark.
That being said I don't leave my fluid in more than a year.
 
I failed at the first hurdle - couldnt get the wheel off. However much i pushed / pulled they would not budge. Suspect after years of not being removed they have siezed.

Can anyone recommend a cheap telescopic wrench to get more leverage?

I've got one you can borrow, in Sheffield just the over side of crystal peaks, or iirc it was from screw fix

It was up until 2011. Done 3000 miles in 5 years so the previous owner went by the mileage rather thsn every year and didnt have it serviced
 
And I guess also hasn't had many tyre changes in that time, worst case take it somewhere and get them to pop them off. Quick clean up and grease yourself :)
 
Jack up the car, take off wheel nuts and with a heavy hammer give the rubber a whack a few times on the inside, rotating the wheel. That normally frees them but watch you dont hit the alloy.
 
got the wheels off

next problem.. cannot move the bolts on the back of the caliper. i've got a removal tool (a big hex key) but it just won't move. tried tapping the tool with a hammer to try and move it but it is stuck.

any advise?
 
i just bought some bolt extractors on amazon.
didnt need them cos i cut a slot into them, penetrated with wd40 and used a bit of jedi mind magic and bolts came off...lol
