Repair, wash, scratch, stroppy, fixed (...but....

Posted last week in M about trip to dealer to get rattle fixed.

Well on collection (after they did compo valet) - noticed at least 8 significant scrapes/scratches to laquer - extremely obvious on black and on a sunny afternoon (one extended from hood base right across boot lid - in a lovely wipe-like sweeping arc). Not a happy chap. Results of scrotty cleaning - grit impregnated cloth IMHO. Fortunately I'm glad I did walk round with service reception chap - who then called in service manger.

Consequence - back in today for all marks to be polished out. Phew all gone - none too serious - but that will be LAST time I let then near car after service/work - I'll clean it myself.

When it was in for warranty air flow sensor at beginning of year I was a tad suspicious about quality of wash, but couldn't be definitive - this time was different.

Rectification was somewhat perfunctory... a bit dissapointed. OK they got it fixed, but what would have kept you happy to go back again.....? (Two years ago they fitted wrong sized rear tyres to my e39 - they gave me complimentary full valet voucher - which still lying in the 5er.)

Would you now raise eyebrow about dealer in general? Hope I get the BMW national customer satisfaction questionairre that come out fairly frequently.

Glad the marks are gone, but they probably took the Lacquer down to an inch of its life.......

Shame you couldn't have gotten a pro to do the work and invoice BMW.

Cheers

crossed my mind to walk - but too busy to go chasing - always compromises. any ideas how much a guage is? might be worth me measuring.

the dealer is close by and convienient to home and work - but there are two others 20+ miles in opposite directions that I'll head to in 1600 miles for the 36k oil service - but without compo valet.

Similar thing happened to me recently. Put my Z4 in one of those dreaded car washes (without my knowing) and lo and behold found 6 or 7 vertical scratches by driver's door. Only noticed it when I came home - I know my car really well and 100% sure it wasn't there before wash. Took it back to the dealer - manager said it couldn't have been the washer. Felt stuffed - couldn't prove it and they knew it

My mate had his in for some work on the brakes and the dealers could not do enough for him - they even added a complementary crease on the passenger door! How the hell do you manage to open a door onto a car and think you can get away without the customer noticing? Needless to say he was far from impressed and is still tring to get it fixed.

suppose it was my passive aggressive rage simmering...in the dealer car park - had given the service loon a roasting in the morning when he came out with the - well it is on AUC warranty and this might not be covered - WTF? the warranty work that you clearly didn't sort first time round?

You've got to dig in. But if there a few marks on the car then without photo evidence it might be harder, my MR is as close to pristine as I've had a car....so combied with firm accusation....

Where abouts are you baised? If your near Leicester you could pop by.. Ive got a Paint gauage and would happily help you out no cost.
