Rennline magnetic phone mount

Hi all,

I have been searching for reliable car phone holder that doesn't take up too much space, is sturdy and looks OEM. Now everything I have seen so far that are available doesn't look fit for purpose. I have come across one brand but they unfortunately do not make one specific for our cars.

With that said, has anyone installed magnetic phone mount similar to one made by Rennline? Unfortunately Rennline doesn't have E85/86 specific phone mount but I am tempted to buy the main magnetic mount and fabricate an adaptor to go in the middle of the air vent and stereo.

The main magnetic mount would be centred in the middle:


The adaptor would need to be made but could maybe clip into the existing stereo screw position. NOTE i have not done any measurements so this is purely theoretical at the moment.

No, don’t block the vents, the phone can overheat or you can, get a Brodit pro clip and fit the magnet to that.

So decided to go down this route as temporary solution:

Opened up the vent:


Fish the magsafe cable down to the panel below heating controls:


Using traction line, fish the cable down:


Pull out the centre console and pass the wire down:


Pushing the usb c cable end point between the gap takes a little angling but pretty straight forward:


Simply unplug and lay the cable flat to close:


Pretty clean result. The wire is bit bent so need to check that but one for later:

3. Having trim removal kit made it easy
