Renew Ragtop

Hi Guys,

My 2005 black ragtop has a few minor wear marks on it nothing serious or I presume unusual. But is it possible to get a cheap solution to make it like new and all black again?

Many thanks,

Sean

I think there are some die kits available?? but not sure how successful they are... But I know what you mean, mine is a 2003 model and whilst its in good condition with hardly any creases, there are obvious wear lines where the lateral struts/ bars seem to lie.

I've given mine a good clean with the Autoglym soft top cleaner/protector combo. Had to do it a couple of times over the past few weeks however think it has eventually made the hood on my 55 plate look much fresher than it was before. Maybe worth a try before going down the route of dye kits? I know I'd be scared...

Hi,

I have a 2006 3.0si and have recently used Renovo's Soft Top Reviver with great results. Very easy to apply, and any worries I had about doing it prior were for no reason.

I only gave it one coat, and used less than half of the bottle. I had previously used BMW roof cleaner and impregnating agent which always made the soft top look good, but after the Reviver it now looks nice and dark again. Couldn't be happier with the result.

I masked off the rear window as well as the windscreen with masking tape and newspaper and used a 2" brush to apply the solution. I did have a few drips fall on the side windows and a couple on the body, but they wiped off very easily with a damp cloth. A few spots on the glass that even dried came off with my normal glass cleaner.

It really was an easy process, and the results are well worth it. After it had dried I used a soft brush to "soften" the roof fibbers again - hard to explain what I mean here, but it'll make sense when you do it!!

Cheers,

Nelson.

Just ordered the Autoglym kit so will give it ago this weeked. Get rid of those grey fold lines and restore it to its former 2005 glory :D

Ive used the AutoGlym kit too.

Just got a new TurtleWax one from halfrauds which seems to have done a good job so far :D

+3 for the AG Roof Kit. I used it earlier this year, it was great at cleaning and protecting the roof, leaving the fabric looking black, dark evenly, and clean (EDIT: I don't mean that the AG stuff darkens or colours the roof, but that it removes dirt and cleans well). Seems to repel rain and dirt easily (sits on top of the roof rather than settling in), so that when you come to washing the car, the hose will just wash away the dirt easily. Still have more than half a bottle of the cleaner and the protector left, if my memory serves me right (is in the garage right now).

replacing the cover on a z4 is a pretty huge job and if you where getting a dealers to do i wouldn't expect change from £1500 if not more
