Removing wiper arms

Anyone had the arms off their E85 yet? I dont mean the blades, but the actual whole arm.

I popped off the cover undid the 16mm nut but that was as far as I got, literally welded together the arm and the spline. Tried a bit of hammering, and levering, but nervous as it only has the scuttle panel under it and known to crack.

All I ever do is a sharp tap on the spindle while the nut is still on so I don't damage the threads, then nut off, grasp the end of the arm and wiggle it up, down, left & right. Not had to resort to pullers yet.

I tried a sharp tap, then increasingly harder taps followed by some fairly brutal bashing and eventually the arm popped off the ball joint....oh joy.

Did this today and just could not believe how difficult it was to get the wiper arms off. I had read this thread and pre armed myself with a puller from Halfords - that was a big mistake. It was the type with a fixed base and knurled wheel to apply the tension. First issue was that it wouldn't fit round the shaft without a bit of grinding to widen base. That sorted, no way could I apply enough tension with the knurled wheel :o
Having 'modified' it couldn't ask for my money back either

Problem sorted with a decent puller from Amazon (see photo), which was by the way far cheaper. Even with this puller I had, like others, to crank up the tension with mole grips until it suddenly popped off - and that was after a good tap with a hammer and application of boiling water. That just left the 4 plastic headed screws to do battle with. Good job I had replacements as no way would they ever have gone back

Still, worth it in the end as the amount of crud under the scuttle cover was horrendous. In particular the drain nearest to the wiper motor with grommit in base .... a good couple inches of leaves and dirt. One thing for sure those wiper arms had never been off in 19 years :(

Yes I bought the same puller off amazon for £9.

Soaked the bolt with wd40 and left it for 30 mins then put an extension on the winder on the puller and gave it a tug. It made a rather shocking bang sound but popped off! I tried all the other things like tapping, hammer, pushing, pulling, etc. but I think after 18 years or so they are generally welded down!

I can though testify the above puller does the trick

That tool on Amazon is £9.99 with a £35 delivery to NI 😂
Even buying from the company direct, they charge £26 delivery. Chancers……

Have you got a link to the Amazon puller?
Going to replace my arms in the near future.
Did you buy arms from stealers?

And I didnt buy an arm, I simply sanded it down and had a can of metallic black sapphire plastidip to hand so put that on, came up lovely and the texture suits wiper arms I think

Before taking the arms off put some tape on the windscreen to mark the rest position of the blades, makes refitting easier. Also worth pulling the wiper motor and linkage out, remove the back plate on the motor 6 bolts and clean the grease off the contact plate you see in there. Grease migrates over that plate and interferes with the parking position when wipers switched off leaving them too high on the screen.
