Removing the OEM clip-on beverage holder

My 2014 that I just purchased, came with the OEM "clip-on" beverage holder. I don't like it, and would like to remove it. I would think if it clipped-on, it would easily clip-off. But, I'm not seeing what to push/pull in order to do that. I know it can't be rocket science, but I don't want to break something. Does it come off fairly easily, or not?

We didn’t get these in the UK where most members live, you might have to wait until a US citizen appears

Dave, my wife said to say to grab the base like a man, and pull on it like a man.

IMO You’ll break something if you just pull it.

They’re must be some locking/release mechanism in parts 2/7/8/12.

My guess would be you need to go up underneath the centre console and push some prongs or suchlike back/in to release the mount arm

Andy, there's no locking mechanism on the cup holder. Really, just grab the bloody base firmly and pull firmly straight out.

 We should get him to video the removal

When we first bought the car, I looked and looked for the bloody locking thing. Until one day wife yanked it out. I asked how she did it. She said, 'I pulled it on it like a woman.' Man up!

I have this cupholder as well, and often wondered how it was supposed to be removed. But knowing my track record, I just knew it would self-destruct if I as much pointed a DIY finger at it.... :?

Well usually with these sort of things, just put a cup in it, thing will probably just fall off.
Actually the wife put an empty cup in it and the spring tension on the side bits kept popping the cup out of the holder
Edit - now that I look at the photo above, I realise it's different to mine. Mine's probably similar but not the genuine BMW item.

Thanks for the replies. I've pulled straight out on it so much that the side of the console began bowing out. It was obvious that something was about to break, so I stopped. I guess I will live with it :(

it does like the actual cup holder part..not the mount, does just clip in and out as its a sperate piece, is it not possible to have someone help apply pressure to the mount so it doesn't bow and then work it out..could be like the famous gear knob where you have to keep pulling so hard until it just gives and you get a black eye  perhaps get some mole grips on the base near to where it inserts and work it up and down, side to side a bit and see if theres some give

Well looking at items 7 & 8 they are screws, so I assume that's a permanent fixing for parts 2 & 12?
Then the main cup holder (Part 1) looks as though it clips in. I think it'll be a semi-permanent 'clip in' that requires some force to remove again.
Trouble is that force is pulling right through the the screws into the side of the centre console.
If you want it removed I'd suggest trying to lever somehow between the cup holder and Part 7. That may separate the components.
You may end up with screw holes in the console though, if you remove it all?

All, for real, it’s just grab firmly and pull. That’s it.

Can I post a short video in this forum?

Dave, are you in America or have an iPhone or WhatsApp? Send me a PM with your mobile. I’ll shoot a short video and send it to you.

I’ve made a video. Sadly, it doesn’t seem there’s a way to upload it. I’m not going to post it to YouTube, save it in Dropbox, etc. If you want a copy, PM me an email. If you’re a creep, uncle Gino will pay you a visit.

This - perfect answer.

After you take it out you can open the glovebox and see that there is a dedicated space to store your cupholder after you remove it from the center console.
