Removing the gear knob

I have done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the best way to do it is to put one foot on drivers seat and one on passengers and pull away. However I did almost fall back over the rollover bars
I hope you were being observed by neighbours, they’d have thought you’d gone nuts

I guess he's a lot older and wiser now. :)

Crikey it isn't that difficult!

As anyone who has met me will know, I'm no Schwarzenegger but I've done 2 now with no breakages or injuries!

I got a ZHP for my Z4 last year (luckily, seeing as you can't get them now) and earlier this year I got an E91 that has the same horrible OEM one as the Z4 had - so I've replaced that with an "aliexpress" special for less than a tenner!

Do you have a pic of the Ali express one please. Interested to see what the quality actually looks like.

Yes, this is how it looks fitted. It isn't great, but I really don't like the stainless bits on the OEM ones so for the money I can't really go wrong!

It seems to weigh about the same as OEM (unlike the ZHP which is significantly weightier) but I have to confess my 325i is an SE, so a bit of gratuitous M branding.

There may be, but I really don't want to see them! :P

Looking on the Ali express website there are many companies offering gearknobs. With prices ranging from £5 to £10 is buying the dearer one going to get better quality or is it hit and miss.

Did mine at the weekend. Didn't take that much pulling, just sit in the divers seat and give it a good yank.

When changing mine, I couldn't get the old knob off, no matter what. And I'm not very lightly built a guy. Then I tried heating the knob with a hairdryer. That did the trick, knob came off relatively easily after that. It turned out that the old knob was glued in place and heating softened the glue just enough. I'm not sure it was glued at the factory, maybe it was the previous owner.

Oh remind's me, i got a ZHP before Christmas, not fitted yet as i meant to order a Cricket box at the same time :D

Don't get an England cricket box, you'll keep dropping the knob.
