Removing the behind-seat speakers

My passenger-side rear speaker is proper knackered, so I've got another one off fleaBay for £16 or so - just need to fit it!
I don't have the fancy system, just the standard 6-speaker setup, so I've got the small circular speakers. Does the grille just pull off or do I have to go in from behind? ( )

I read the instructions on fitting an Intravee and getting to the DSP speakers which looks like a right ballache so I'm hoping the standard ones will be a lot simpler!

They fix from the inside of the cabin so presumably the grilles will prise off so you can get to the screws.

Don't think its that easy. If you are talking about the 4" mids behind your head I thnk you have to take the centre console out and remove all the plastics on the bulkhead! :headbang:

Yep the circular mids are a pita to remove

Aaargh no really?? I had a look at the Intravee install document and it talked about taking everything out to get to the DSP-system speakers (you have to reach in from behind and push the grilles out) but it said nothing about the 4" ones :-/

Balls!! Found another forum that says the same thing. Looks like they're screwed directly to the bulkhead :headbang:

That's going to be a friggin' nightmare.

I couldn't get the centre tray out! :(
I pulled it when it was fully open, it wouldn't budge. I found pvr's thread and it looked like he had it at a higher angle ... That wouldn't work either :(

I took the little screws out of these bits, and again nothing would budge :-/

I had the same problem, messed around for nearly 2 hours. Then gave it a proper PULL wiggling it about and it came off. I thought I had broke it but I hadn't, all went back together perfectly

What. A. Bloody. Nightmare.

I went back out today, and the centre tray popped right out!
'Hard part done', thought I.

HA! How wrong I was. Took my housemate and I about two and a half hours, but we got it all apart, put the new speaker in, and got it all back together again. The only casualty was a slight rip ( ) inside the roof when it was going up and down as we tried to get the plastic bit behind the roll hoop back on. It's not noticeable but I worry what it means for the weather-proofing :-/

Either way, I now have a functioning speaker :)

I utterly failed in taking pictures for a how-to. My advice would be 'take it to a professional' ;)

However, here's what things look like with all the gubbins removed. Why BMW had to make it this hard to get to a teeny little speaker I will never know!

Damn!
Sorry, I changed my domain and then removed the gallery that these pics were in ... not knowing they were there! :headbang:
