How easy is it for a soft-handed computer programmer to remove the steering wheel on a 2011 Z4 35i manual, heated steering wheel?

Surprisingly easy. There's videos on YouTube.. I did it when I added cruise to my e89

Thanks for that, youtube answers almost every question :D

Any issues to watch out for by disconnecting the battery? The steering wheel will be away for up to 5 days getting re-furbished, any problems with the iDrive, stereo codes, alarm etc?

not that I am aware of. obviously you need to be careful on th doors/windows/boot if you disconnect the battery, as they are electrically operated, but it made no difference having the battery disconnected for a length of time on mine. Just don't trigger any faults by turning it back on when anything is disconnected.. unless you have a tool/software to fix it..

just make sure your steering wheel is pointing straight forward before you take it off... :D

Whose doing your wheel? Did you find a good video on YouTube?

Royals of Aylesbury but not until the New Year, getting a partial engine rebuild in Jan at my local indie then I'll send the steering wheel off to them :driving:

Can you disconnect the battery, remove the wheel, reconnect the battery, to lock the car whilst the wheel is being retrimmed?
Then, unlock, disconnect battery again, install the wheel, reconnect the battery. Or would there be possible faults?

I would say no as the air bag on the steering wheel would be disconnected.
You could lock the car with the key instead of the fob.
