Removing steering wheel trim

Hello!

I bought some di noc 3m carbon fiber material and managed to apply it to my door handles near perfectly, they look great! Much better than my first attempt on an N64 controller, that was a dismal failure lol.

Anyway I'm looking for some other easy bits to do first and would like to try the grey plastic steering wheel trim:

Am I correct in saying that all I need to do is remove the two screws on the back of the steering wheel on the middle bulk bit to lift the airbag part out, and then the trim should just prise off? Or should I disconnect the battery?

You can remove the trims with the airbag in place, but you've got more chances of breaking the part where the screws fit. Removing the airbag is most recommended. There's a how-to on youtube that's very useful for that. Remember to disconnect the battery first.

The airbag / horn push need to be removed to get the steering wheel trim off.

Battery should be disconnected for a while before removing the Airbag (15 mins+). Airbag / horn push is released using a screwdriver to push the metal retaining clips / springs that are located in the two holes on the top of it and then disconnecting the wiring.

You can then undo the screws on the back of the trim and carefully prise them off.

Hi
I would disconnect the battery and remove the airbag, only takes 5-10 minutes when you know how(covered elsewhere) and then like you suggested, remove the two rear screws.
This will give you that little bit extra clearance so you won't end up stressing the plastic pillars which thread through the s/wheel spokes (which is what I recently done).
Hope this helps.

As others have said ,remove the air bag having first disconnect the battery and waiting 20 minutes .Next take off steering wheel.Remove the three screws that hold the rear cowl.Removing the side trims is straight forward.Undo the two screws, the trim is now held in place by two lugs which you can see if you look carefully. With a small flat blade screwdriver prise the lugs inwards and the trim will part.
Carefully pull the top part of the trim off the wheel as this bit has the locating plugs which are quite fragile.
You remove the bottom trim in the same way,the only difference being the locating plugs are angled and are easily broken.
