Removing Sat Nav Computer MKIV

Any idea how much needs to be removed in order to remove the sat nav computer hiding in the center console? I'm replacing the screen with a galaxy note iii to integrate all the features of android into the z4, but want to remove the computer to sell it as this will more than offset the cost of the install.

You need to remove the rear centre console panel.

This should help you

Thanks, that's perfect. They really stuck that thing in there huh? Wonder if they thought that would help prevent theft.

Would the LCD screen itself be worth any money? These navigation systems go for 2 grand new.. they just seem too outdated though and the screen isn't that brilliant to begin with.

That was me, but I'm all sorted now as I bought a brand new LCD panel for £70 and modded my Pcb to give better brightness. Works a gem.

Slightly off topic to your original question, but can I ask:-

- Intergreating android sounds great but what about controlling the standard features of the car that are programmed through the original computer/screen? i.e. the DSP/trip computer time/date etc.

?

I figured that the trade-off is worth it. You lose DSP and things like the car beeping when a certain speed is reached but I can always get a business CD with the screen on it to get DSP again. With the android integration you get a whole lot more like a beautiful screen, better navigation, streaming music, and even video playing. Best part I think is torque integration to read from OBDII and I'm planning to set it up in a way that will allow the tablet to be an automatic dash cam as well.

Once the project is underway, I will create a new thread to document my progress.. I am following a similar build that was done here, but the finished product could've used some better integration on the software side.

Dash cam won't work as the system sits too deep into the dash. Its not high enough to have a good view.

Took the screen out.Disassembled.. Much easier than i thought it would be. Took out all the innards and left them on ebay.. If anyone here wants to buy a fully functional screen let me know.

Here's a pic of it all disassembled.

I might be needing some parts for my nav system. It packed in last week. I'm waiting for a copy of the BMW SIS to arrive, before I start taking the dash apart.

Think it's the screen thats gone or disconnected, but don't know yet.
