Removing plastic insert on Auto shifter

Does the grey plastic insert on the shifter come off? It looks like it does but don't want to attempt unless somebody has done it and can advise as to how it is removed. Mine has a number of stratches and would like to spray paint it.
Have done a search on the forums but can't find anything on automatic shifters.

Have a read of these and then you'll see how they come out, it might be better just to roder a new part than to try and spray it.
