Removing gear knob?

I don't believe they're threaded but...I like mine as it is. What are you wanting to replace it with, got any pics?

I'm replacing mine with this (the darker, titanium coated one - with the 6-speed pattern and ///M logo engraved...

Mine was loose to begin with and would come off in mid shift if I wasn't careful so I got to see the inside up close and personal. Turned out the leather boot had come up high enough to impede the knob from getting fully seated.

There is a plastic key up inside of the knob and a slot on top of the gear shift lever to keep the knob from turning around, so don't try to force it to unscrew or you will break it.

For the US, I got mine at mileoneparts.com. It was 48 shipped, and it arrived within a couple days of ordering. I'd recommend them, except their site absolutely sucks. I can't even find the URL of the item, and the search is atrocious. Probably would have better luck finding their phone number and calling them.

'Box - Nice.

Is it countersunk?

How much?

From where?

We need to sort this meet so I can see the difference the CDV mod makes too.

Cheers,

Flymo

Flymo!

Countersunk? Not sure what you mean?

I'm getting a deal - but there's a group buy on from the guy who makes these on another forum - £65 at the moment through that I think?

http://www.storm-motorwerks.com ....

Off to the 'Ring this weekend, but around next week if you (and anyone else - JayD?) wants to do a meet one evening after work or something?

'Box!

I had a countersunk knob on the S2000 (actually three different ones before I finally found the perfect one and then sold the car...!)

Basically, rather than sitting on top of the gearstick, the knob is drilled so that it sits much lower down and reduces the throw.

From the looks of the link, that is exactly what yours will do.

Any idea whether the lighter finish one will go with my aluminium trim?

If so, I could be very keen on getting in on the GB if at all possible.

Off to the 'Ring again? You practically live there, don't you?!! I hope you've at least managed to negotiate a decent discount... :D

As for the meet, weeknights tend to be pretty hard to plan due to work commitments.

How does the weekend of the 28th/29th sound?

I'm away that weekend too (tho' not at the 'Ring :P)... Ummm... August is good for me at the moment. Nothing really planned, but this month is full as far as weekends go.

As for living at the 'Ring. If only! :D But this is only my 2nd outing in the Z. Went at Easter, but may go back one last time this year - in either September or October, but not 100% sure yet on which.

Oh, and back to topic - yes it is countersunk, and will reduce the throw as you said :)

I've got the same one as sp3ctre's

Feels so much better than the standard ///M one although I miss the cool (or tacky whichever way you look at it) lights on the standard part!

I could do the weekend of the 3rd/4th of August. How does that sound?

And any chance of catching the group buy?

Or do I need to be a member of your other forum? :)

I want one but don't really want to pay £45.

How much do you reckon it would cost to ship one from the US??
Will cost you about the same by the time you've paid shipping and import duty, maybe a bit less like £40 or something.

Flymo, 3/4th August is good for me!

I managed to fit the new gearknob - however, this is the result of pulling quite hard on the original, whilst leaning over a bit too close at the same time.. lol!

I'm fitting my carbon roof next week! That should be fun...

sixspeed ouch! You never remembered the Z4um advice - put it in second gear and do it from the passenger seat :D

Timely tip :punch:

Guess we all have a reason to remember that one now.
