Removing factory licence plate holder

I need to install new plates on my Z4 and I am presented with this weird contraption:

Are those screws?
Are they factory?

They are just alloy pop rivets. Use a sharp drill to remove them.

I'd lose the number plate mount altogether.

Strange, mine has standard Phillips screws holding it on.

What about silicone, hold it in place once set its water proof

Ahhhhhh, don't go there. When I put my private plates on last week, I was faced with silicone that just won't budge and looks crap.

Just spend the £2 and buy the proper double sided tape.

Agreed - just make sure they are straight - nothing worse than a wonky number plate :roll:

Those rivets are absolutely horrible to drill through but managed it in the end
