Removing CDV from an ///M, does it make any difference?

Anyone done this without the use of a ramp, can it be done :?

EDIT: I've just had a look under the car.... I think no!

Gannet changed is on axle stands during his lunch break from memory. Its on here somewhere.
Edit, found it

I've got some axel stands....but I really don't wanna be working on cars anymore! Might wait until its service time! Should I get a modified unit or just join the pipes together? Anywhere in the uk sell the modded CDV?

I had mine removed a few years ago, and frankly the difference was VERY slight, if at all.. at least to my left leg. Got better results from replacing the motor mounts with VT street mounts, and Rogue Engineering trans mounts at the same time. Those were definitely worthwhile upgrades.

Walkers Autotech over near Billingshurst. Been researching over a couple of years and had shortlisted Bartley in Southampton and the place near Brands, ETA. Both a pita to get to/from though with an inspection 2. ML I'm still unsure of as they have a mixed reputation. I contacted the members on here that used Walkers and they all came back good. I would recommend them certainly if your looking and Andy Walker is the owner and also gets his hands dirty.

Thats good to know. Billingshurst is just down the road!

I didn't get dirty in my lunch break - my boss did :D

You CAN drive around it... but when it's so much easier without it there, frees the brain for other uses while driving :driving:

I'd forgotten about the CDV until I drove an ///M last year through a town pogo-ing down the highstreet :o

It makes little difference on the ///M, certainly it won't prevent pogoing when cold - only learning to engage the clutch carefully until the engine warms up will do that.
It doesn't really improve the stiff first to second gear change either, again that is a characteristic of the gearbox. If you are experiencing denied gear shifts, change to the VT engine mounts.
The greatest enemy of smooth driving in the ///M is the stupid fly-by-wire throttle. As the first part of the pedal travel has little effect on engine speed, those used to a throttle cable will need to learn to drive round it. Engaging Sport Mode makes for a night-and-day improvement in throttle response but even that is a poor substitute for a throttle cable.
I removed my CDV several years (and several tens of thousands of miles) ago and this seems to have caused no harm to the drivetrain. However, I wouldn't have bothered removing it had I know it has so little effect.

*I understand from other forum members that it has a really big effect on non-///Ms and it seems to on the Z3.

I will be going back there and happily recommend them.

It would appear the CDV on the ///M draws opinion on a 50-50 basis
Yes, and half of you hold an opinion that is most obviously wrong :P I believe it's called wishful thinking bias :D

I might have get get PVR to let me drive his ///M back to back just to compare
I'd let you drive mine but then you'd want to buy the much faster coupe :P
