Removing back boxes...

£299 gets me both back boxes off, new pipes and 3" tips plus "flanges" all fitted so reversing would be very quick and simple - might even be able to do it myself.

1 question left is to do, or not to do...

Anyone else had experience of this? I've decided if it'll cost me any more than that I'm not interested (infact I'm already over budget). More noise is the only aim in this, although I don't want back pressure issues etc.

If anyone in surrey has had something similar done, I'd really like to come out in yours to hear the difference first hand.

Thanks in advance!

There is a thread in the general section whereby someone has just done this to their 3ltr and there was quite the noticeable difference. If you are set on upgrading the system so to speak and have a set budget in mind, it sounds like you've already made your mind up... With any system that's not valve controlled, one has to consider drone in a two seater cabin. Consider your driving style and if you want something a bit beefier, go for it. Anything else will cost you a lot more...

I did it on my M coupe earlier this year, rear box delete with straight pipes and new tips.

One lap of the block was enough to have me back on the ramp and exhaust chappie refitting the oem boxes - the noise is terrible!
Please see my thread in the M specific section "My muffler delete experience" for the full story.

Some members love the noise but it is utterly unbearable in my opinion. Do let us know what you do....

To too wanted a bit more sound so I bought some used Remus back boxes for a bit more volume/a deeper note. It's not a massive difference by any means, but well worth the change IMO.

I like the remus ones myself but their not cheap at £800 ish,I'm swaying to a hayward full system now.

£300 for a set of straight pipes seems awfully expensive to me..
You could probably ask any half-decent machinist to knock you up a set for half that including mats.....
