Hi guys, my first post in a while :(

I need to remove my antenna base from the zed. For some reason the lacquer has decided to peel around it. its only minjor and as my friend is a 'magic man' he says that it can be repaired using an airbrush with lacquer.

does anyone know the best way to remove the aerial base?

cheers

you'll simply need to unscew the nut that holds the amp (small box with aerial wire connected to it) against the inside part of the fender, within the boot. Best to use ratchet and socket of correct size. If I remember correctly, I used an angle joint and extension on my ratchet to help reach that nut which is somewhat recessed in the amp. The nut in question is screwed to a bolt which is part of the antenna sitting on the fender. Quite easy if you have those tools.

so is it just a case of pulling the boot liner back and you can see the bit i need to undo?

Yep! Better be willing to lie down inside the boot or use a mirror, bloody thing is impossible to see when standing from outside.

haha, il have my mates there so no doubt il end up locked in the boot for a while if i jump in!!!! :P

thanks for the help!

Apologies on reactivating this thread if there is a newer one but I wanted to change the aerial on my 04 Z and managed to snap the stud :headbang: so now need to replace the base. :(

I thought the screw was just that, with a crosshead/slot, but obviously not. This thread claims I need a socket to remove it - if so what size please?

But another thread claims it's a torx, and although I can't see the screw/bolt, that's what it feels like to me.

So what is it? All help most welcome :) thanks.

It's a torx. I bought a cheapie set and it worked fine.

Thanks, I actually bought a set sometime ago :o [E30 M3 sunroof - lalala  don't ask]

It looks like a T25 to me, all I need is the rest of my tool-kit back from son #1 and I'll have a go tomorrow.

Wish me luck.

Eventually got a complete tool-kit again so had a go, but as I loosened the bolt so the base started to turn in the wing :(

Two man job, so this morning son #1 and I successfully managed to replace it - but it really is a PITA to do

[all because the original aerial was slightly damaged and I fancied a stubby, remind me next time to leave 10 year old parts alone! ]

The very reason I have not changed mine to a stubby, it feels like the whip is welded on to the mount....

Yep, I know what you mean.

Looking good though, it was worth all the hassle ......

....wasn't it? :?
