Looks like your motor just needed cleaning but I saw this on Ebay if your's is kaput.

It say's it runs slow but again, may just need a clean up.

Thanks for that but I feel I may be bidding against everyone on here now :-)

There was one going for $1 here, but don't know how much it would cost to ship to UK -could be cost prohibitive...
hmmmm, just checked, and it went last Sunday after being listed unsuccesfully 4 times. Typical

Thanks for that and its always the way, Im just waiting on the fluid I will know then whether its fully functioning or a new one is needed just need to make a bracket now to hold it in place.

Finally got the hydraulic fluid and some time so filled up and magically roof moving quicker than before so relieved it works the only issue I found was that when working the roof via the fob the motor started to smoke after it unclipped from the roof it stopped.
Now this doesn't happen when using the switch which is strange so will keep using it hopefully freeing it up a little more.

I received some hydraulic oil on Friday, so set about moving the motor into the boot on Saturday. Gave up after 3 hours - it's just not going to happen without taking the roof off.
1. the top of the sound insulation is RTV'd securely (so no change of water ingress. I wasn't taking any chances when replacing the motor and took Shipkiller's advice to seal up the sound insulation box). I can't pop the lid off by hand.
2. the sound insulation is cable tied to the roof 'strut' at the bottom securely. I can just barely touch it with fingertips, there's no way I can 'safely' get any cutting instrument to that point to cut it.
So maybe a winter project - get the roof off again and relocate the motor.

In your opinion and recent experience, do you think with one of those Android endoscopes available cheaply now it will be possible to cut said cable ties?

D*mn BMW for this design flaw. Really not keen on removing the soft top at all!

Like I said It all depends on who has changed the Motor in the past some may go overboard with cable ties some may only put back whats necessary.
I had 4 which with the help of the endoscope and scalpel and hook tool I was able to get to everyone and release the cover by making a hole in the top cover with the pick tool and pulling upwards.
If your comfortable working with a camera view and not your eyes I dont see why you would'nt have success and the endescopes come in handy for other stuff so may not be wasted money in that regard.

I just need to source some carpet for the cover if i cant get the right match i will just give it a spray.

Guess wouldn't know till I use the scope and check it out myself. Hopefully to get this done in 3Q2016!

Late to the party I’m afraid, hopefully there is someone out there who can help. Thanks for the instructions , i wouldnt have even attempted this without it so very much appreciated!! Decided to give it a go today - started so well but now I’m stuck. Managed to get the top of the cover off, which wasn’t too bad tbh. The motor came out after a bit of wrangling but can’t break the lines free of the bottom of the cover. I can feel a cable tie near the bottom but not sure if it’s the ones holding the cables or the bottom of the cover. Can’t get anything in to cut it and it seems to keeping the cover from moving. Also there isn’t much movement to try to wrench it out with brute force. Got an endoscope coming tomorrow so hopefully that will help me get a craft knife in there. Any tips or tricks (and save the small amount of skin that’s left on my fingers)
