Removal of roof trim above the windscreen

Does anyone know how to get access to the locking motor mechanism under the trim in the roof above the windscreen (and I mean the complete trim and not just the access panel). I've diagnosed a loose connection in one of the sensors/cables/connectors up there that's stopping my roof from moving occasionally. I need to get under the trim to check out why and fix the cable/connector but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the whole trim without potentially breaking it. Any help gratefully appreciated and anyone with photos of the trim taken off showing locating mounts etc... would be a true gent!

Thanks in advance for any help. 8)

Give Real.oem a go, it might give some insight in how the parts fit together

Take both sun visors off (2 screws each) and pop out the light fitting and the whole cross piece can be slid off. 2 min job.

Get on the bay and get yourself a copy of BMW TIS, its todays Haynes manual for about a fiver.

Ranski, sweet, not heard of Realoem.com before. Thank you, definitely helps in seeing what's inside and after seeing the price of the plastic bit I want to remove I definitely don't want to buy a new one. Can't quite see how it comes apart though, so still looking for something better.
Thanks for the help T2FFN, but I don't think I was very clear. I was after removing the plastic cover that is part of the roof above the windshield and not the trim on the main windscreen frame. Any idea on that one?
srhutch, thanks I'll see if can get a copy :)
Any more advice gratefully welcome. :)

Found it, courtesy of srhutch and a little searching. I tried to load a copy of BMW TIS but as I have a home copy of MS Windows 7 it wouldn't install without a lot of faff. But I found this online version that works fine with google translate :)

I found the extra 2 screws hiding at the sides of the roof only after I lowered it about 2/3rds and hey presto I could take the trim off. I checked the sensors and they seemed fine, however it appears the cable is giving me jip. So nearly there, think I need to splice in a new section but no time now, will finish the job next week.
Thanks for your advice and happy cruising :driving: :D

I know that this is a really old thread but it might help anyone who would like to remove the plastic trim above the windscreen (trim below the front part of the roof).

I recently found a little crack in this plastic trim so I decided to look for information on how to remove that part. The only thing I found was this post and the link that @funandfree shared. It was really useful but I took some pictures that might be helpful as well.

One photo shows how much you would have to open the roof in order to see the screw to be removed and the other shows the actual screw.

thanks,

Just remove the two sun visors and then the middle section pulls off (towards rear of the car) and then the two pillars just pull up.

Had mine off last week to swap for leather ones.

If the pillars wont play ball, then chances are the windscreen has been replaced at some time and there is mastic on them. I had to slowly separate one of mine from the mastic before being able to remove.
